
EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has put in development Such A Lovely Family Drama, a drama series based on Aggie Blum Thompson‘s mystery thriller novel, from Addison McQuigg (Cruel Summer, Animal Kingdom) and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, sources tell Deadline.
Netflix declined to comment.Written by McQuigg, in Such A Lovely Family Drama, a cold-blooded murder is committed during one of Washington’s hottest annual parties. Everyone has a secret, a motive, but none more so than every member of the deceased’s “lovely” family.
McQuigg and Thompson executive produce with Kaplan via Kapital Entertainment. Kapital’s Dylan Hammalian serves as co-executive producer. Kapital Entertainment is the studio.
McQuigg currently has in development the limited series Crush for Peacock and Universal with Elizabeth Banks set to direct, star and produce. McQuigg also serves as co-executive producer on Far Cry for Noah Hawley and FX. Recently, he developed The Cu*t for HBO and served as co-executive producer on The Madonnas of Echo Park for Netflix/Kapital. Previous writing and producing credits include the first season of Freeform’s Cruel Summer, TNT’s Animal Kingdom, FX’s Tyrant, Netflix’s Bloodline and Flesh & Blood. On the film side, McQuigg is prepping his feature directorial debut Nightfall and penned the feature Dancing With The Tiger, based on the book by Lili Wright, for eOne and Mark Gordon, He’s repped by Verve, Haven Entertainment and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Thompson was a crime reporter for The Boston Globe and The Washington Postbefore turning to fiction writing. Her four domestic thrillers – I Don’t Forgive You, All the Dirty Secrets, Such a Lovely Family and You Deserve to Know are all set in the Washington D.C. area. Her upcoming fifth book, The Neighbors are Watching, will be published in June 2026.
